Terschelling

Midsland Terschelling
The island experience begins on the ferry, surrounded by the salty sea. On Terschelling the wind blows constantly, and the smell of the sea has a refreshing and cleansing effect.

The island experience begins on the boat. In just two hours, you are transported to a completely different world, and the mainland seems a long way away. Once you arrive at Terschelling, you can surrender to the rhythm of the island with its tranquillity and open space.

Terschelling offers a wonderful experience. Much of the island boasts fabulous, unspoilt nature, where even in the high season you can walk for hours without seeing another living soul. Even so, the friendly villages, each with its own unique character, are never far away.

The lively harbour village of West-Terschelling has a cheerful atmosphere throughout the year. It has many small shops, which invite visitors to take a leisurely stroll. Repose and refreshment are provided by diverse cafés and restaurants, which are surprisingly lively and many of which are open all year round. The famous Brandaris lighthouse, which has lit up the island for over four hundred years, can also be found in West-Terschelling. Incidentally, the harbour of West-Terschelling is very unusual, as it is the only natural bay in the Netherlands and is one of the most beautiful in Europe.

Midsland is about five kilometres from West-Terschelling. This village, too, has a lively shopping centre. The old, low, yellow-bricked houses with red roof tiles give the village a cosy, private feel.

With all the excellent facilities, you will not have time to get bored during your stay on the island, even if the weather is poor. However, there is less risk of bad weather on Terschelling than in the rest of the Netherlands. On average the sun shines twice as much on the island as on the mainland.
